Continuous casting machine

As a crucial piece of equipment in steel production, the continuous casting machine continuously casts high-temperature molten steel into billets with specific cross-sectional shapes and size specifications, greatly improving production efficiency and steel quality.

Product Introduction

As a crucial piece of equipment in steel production, the continuous casting machine continuously casts high-temperature molten steel into cast billets with specific cross-sectional shapes and dimensions, greatly improving production efficiency and steel quality. There are various types, classified by billet cross-section into slab, bloom, and billet continuous casting machines; and by structural shape into vertical, curved, and horizontal continuous casting machines, etc.

Slab Continuous Casting Machine

Technical Parameters: Typically, the cast slab thickness is 150 - 250mm, width 1000 - 1800mm, small slab width can be 600mm, thickness 120mm, and the width-to-thickness ratio of the slab is greater than 3. The pulling speed is generally 1.0 - 1.8m/min, adjusted according to the steel grade and billet thickness. The crystallizer is made of copper alloy plates containing silver, chromium, and zirconium, and the inner surface can be plated with a nickel-chromium layer, resulting in a long service life.

Equipment Selection Suggestions: Suitable for the production of rolled flat products (thick plates, medium plates, thin plates, and coils). Large-scale integrated steel enterprises, if they need to mass-produce high-quality plate materials, such as steel for automotive panels and household appliance plates, can choose slab continuous casting machines equipped with large-capacity high-tank intermediate tanks, advanced crystallizer vibration devices (vibration frequency 180 - 300 times/min, amplitude ±2 - 8mm) and multi-point straightening or continuous straightening machines to ensure billet quality and production efficiency.

Bloom Continuous Casting Machine

Technical Parameters: A cross-section or equivalent cross-sectional area less than 160×160mm is considered a small bloom, while one larger than 200×200mm is a large bloom. In terms of pulling speed, a 150×150mm small bloom can achieve ≥3.0m/min, and a 120×120mm bloom ≥4.2m/min. Crystallizers are generally made of forged phosphor bronze or cast brass, and the water pressure and volume of the secondary cooling device can be adjusted according to the steel grade and pulling speed.

Equipment Selection Suggestions: Commonly used in the production of bars, wires, and profiles. Small steel mills focusing on the production of long profiles with small production scales can choose small bloom continuous casting machines, which have low investment costs and can meet production needs; medium-sized steel mills producing alloy steel, high-quality carbon steel, and other types of large blooms should choose equipment with electromagnetic stirring facilities (increasing the equiaxed crystal zone of the billet, reducing segregation and central porosity) and advanced straightening systems (such as continuous straightening) to ensure billet quality.

Billet Continuous Casting Machine

Technical Parameters: Can cast billets of different diameters, with a common diameter range of 150 - 500mm. The pulling speed fluctuates between 0.5 - 3.0m/min depending on the steel grade and billet diameter. The crystallizer adopts a special design to ensure uniform solidification of the molten steel in the circumferential direction, and the uniformity of cooling in the secondary cooling zone is strictly required.

Equipment Selection Suggestions: Mainly used in the production of seamless steel pipes and mechanical part blanks. Steel pipe production enterprises should select a billet continuous casting machine with an appropriate billet diameter range and a good cooling and straightening system according to the specifications and steel grade of the produced steel pipes. For example, the production of billets for oil casing requires a high-precision billet continuous casting machine to ensure billet quality.

Vertical Continuous Casting Machine

Technical Parameters: The equipment is tall, with the molten steel pouring system, crystallizer, cutting device, and billet outlet arranged along the vertical axis. The billet quality is good because the vertical arrangement facilitates the upward flotation of non-metallic inclusions in the liquid metal, the heat dissipation around the billet is uniform, the pulling is not affected by bending and straightening force, and cracking is less likely. However, it is only suitable for small cross-section billets, and the excessive height leads to large infrastructure and equipment investment and maintenance difficulties.

Equipment Selection Suggestions: Suitable for the production of alloy steel and steel grades sensitive to cracking. Special steel plants producing high-end alloy steel billets with small cross-sections and extremely high quality requirements can choose this, but the high cost and maintenance difficulty must be considered.

Curved Continuous Casting Machine

Technical Parameters: The crystallizer, secondary cooling section, and billet straightening machine are arranged on a 1/4 circle, the equipment is low in height, and the billet is subjected to less hydrostatic pressure from the molten steel during solidification. The pulling speed of a full curved continuous casting machine (single-point straightening) is limited, while a multi-point straightening curved continuous casting machine can improve the pulling speed with liquid core straightening. The straight crystallizer curved continuous casting machine combines the advantages of vertical and curved types, facilitating the upward flotation of large inclusions.

Equipment Selection Suggestions: This is the most widely used model. Ordinary steel production enterprises pursuing low cost and high output can choose a full curved continuous casting machine; for the production of high-cleanliness steel with requirements for inclusion distribution, a straight crystallizer curved continuous casting machine is the best choice; to increase the pulling speed, choose a multi-point straightening curved continuous casting machine.

Horizontal Continuous Casting Machine

Technical Parameters: The billet is pulled out horizontally, the equipment is low in height, and the infrastructure investment is small. The crystallizer uses a special structure and lubrication method to reduce friction between the billet and the crystallizer. The pulling speed is generally low, at 0.2 - 1.0m/min, suitable for small cross-section billets and steel grades prone to segregation.

Equipment Selection Suggestions: Suitable for use when the plant space is limited, producing small-sized billets (such as small blooms and small billets) or special steel grades prone to segregation, which can reduce costs and ensure billet quality.

The continuous casting machine body equipment we provide is reliable in quality and excellent in performance. It can be customized according to your production scale, steel grade needs, and plant conditions to help you improve steel production efficiency and billet quality.
